Personal Statement

I am Lina Hu, a second year Ph.D student in sociology department, UC Berkeley. I am so excited to be a member of the BCSSA family which renders me the opportunity to know and make friends with you guys in here. Well, I am a big fan of music, sports, movie, traveling and all kinds of activities that bring fun to our lives. I started playing piano at the age of 3, and I learned singing and dancing along the way. So far, I have won many awards of musical competition from national level to school level. I also compose my own music. As an undergraduate, I served as the composer and keyboard player in the original music association of Wuhan University where our CDs sold tens of thousands of copies (you can download them from the internet).As a graduate student Tsinghua University, I was an active member of the student art group. And I am still now the chief pianist of Xinhe Art association. Not only do I enjoy music and art by myself, I am also more interested in organizing events and activities to spread the joy to people around me. I have served as Vice president of Wuhan Student Union, I have served as member of our National Student Union, I have served as art minister of Wuhan University Student Union, I have served as the diplomatic minister of Graduate Student Union of Tsinghua University as well as Vice president of Humanities and Social Science School. All these experiences have helped me to develop my skill of organizing cheerful activities, and I really enjoy directing dancing parties, singing contest, movie shows, festival programs, social gatherings and group traveling, etc. Therefore, I would like to apply for the position of Vice president of Arts and Performance Department in BCSSA. I feel lucky to know all of you, and I hope I can get a chance to create and share with your all the happiness and joyance of life in California!
